LINGAYEN—The agricultural town of Bayambang is leaving no stone unturned in its bid to be listed in the Guinness World Records through unique presentation of the longest fish grill during the staging of the Malangsi Fishtival on April 4.
The town under the leadership of Mayor Ricardo Camacho is targeting to come up with an 8-kilometer stretch of grilled tilapia in an attempt to put a new world record.
Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. has estimated that around 200,000 pieces or 40,000 kilos of barbecued on some 8,000 grill pans to complete the target and enable Bayambang town to qualify for the inclusion in the pages of the Guinness Book of World Records.
The Governor said that if a one meter grill accommodates at least five kilos at five pieces per kilo, each grill with at least 25 pieces of tilapia multiplied by 8,000 pieces of grills will make up for 200,000 tilapia or 40,000 kilos of fish.
Expressing full support to Bayambang’s bid in the Guinness World Record, the Governor called on all local officials and provincemates to support the activity conducted annually as part of the town’s celebration of its 400th anniversary on April 5.
Governor Espino made the clarion call in a press interview at the Capitol Resort Hotel on Friday, March 7 where he expressed optimism that the endeavor will break the six-kilometer world record set by Turkey.
“We will do our best,” the governor said, adding that” this is not just an effort of Bayambang town but of the whole province.”
Vice-Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. joined Gov. Espino in urging the people of Pangasinan to help the province and the municipality of Bayambang achieve the goal and earn the honor for the whole province. “Magsama-sama at magkaisa tayo sa pagtaas ng bandila ng Pangasinan,” the vice-governor said.
As a co-sponsor, Gov. Espino said the provincial government will donate the volume of tilapia needed for grilling during the Malangsi Fishtival.
The Malangsi Fishtival is a fresh water fish festival celebrated by the municipal government of Bayambang which has become an annual celebration since 2009 during the month of April in line with the founding anniversary of the town.
