Mangaldan recipient of P68M

MANGALDAN – This town which is famous for its tapa or dried  beef received  P17.62 million  from the national government to finance the various economic projects of the town.

 “The bonanza happened because Mangaldan, after meeting all the requirements, provided a counter part fund of 15%,” Julieta Petonio, the municipal planning & development coordinator, told the  members of the  municipal development council last October 8.

The 15% is P2.643, 000 that would come from the coffer of this burgeoning town.

Petonio cited the following projects that are already in the pipeline of the national government poverty reduction program:

Construction of water sanitation facility from the Department of Education (DepEd); Construction of potable drinking system from the Department of Interior & Local Government (DILG); Rehabilitation ALS Center in all schools in Mangaldan District II from the  DepEd II; Rehabilitation of Mangaldan Integrated School Special Education (SPED) from DepED II; Rehabilitation Repair of Classrooms from DepEd; Improvement of Farm to Market Road (Regravelling) from Department of Agriculture (DA); Free Range Chicken (Layer) Production from D.A; Bangus Fingerling Dispersal from Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR); Vegetable Seed Production from D.A; Procurement of Grafted Mango Seedlings to Mango Growers from D.A; Construction of Irrigation Canal from Department of Agrarian Reform; Multi Purpose Drying Pavement (MPDP) from DAR; Establishing of Animal Bite Center from the Department of Health; and BeMOnc Training of Health Personnel.

Meanwhile, with the P50 million and more financial perks to come because of the gung-ho attitude of Mayor Bonafe de Vera-Parayno, municipal personnel are bracing for the International Standardization Organization (ISO) bid of the town.

According to Dr. Rosalie Hulipas, aide of Mayor Parayno, ISO, founded in 1947, is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from some 100 countries, with one standards body representing each member country.

“The Department of Trade & Industry promised to give us P50 million and the financial dividends because of our being ISO certified, this inspires us to work aggressively in attaining it,” Hulipas said.

 Mayor Parayno said the march to ISO would be a team effort by municipal personnel, businessmen, and stake holders here.

She said some passers by and motorists will see soon streamers with slogans like “Let’s ISOnize!” that adorn the municipal hall as she refers to the bid of this robust town for ISO.

“This is a battle of all Mangaldanians,” the mayor said.

She quipped at the MDC meeting that the P50 million “pot money” from the DTI is huge that could help a lot of the people here.

Petonio said two weeks after the meeting of MDC at the senior’s citizen building here, this town will host representatives from DTI based at the regional office in San Fernando City, La Union who would explain the ISO requirements of the town.

After Parayno became mayor, this town had been earning a windfall from the reforms she initiated in different offices and the millions of pesos this town will be earning from her income generating projects like the urgent care clinic, multi-function hall, swimming pool, and others.

From July 1 to September 30, 2013 this town collected 10.40 million pesos taxes, higher than last year’s 7.17 million pesos, according to the mayor’s First 100 Days Report.

She explained that the market collection in July this year spiked to 2.3 million pesos compared to the 1.5 million pesos in 2012 or a difference of 830 thousand pesos.

The mayor cited in her report that the other top performing municipal offices were the slaughter house with P2 million from last year’s P1.5 million, engineering and assessor’s office through its building permit and land use zoning fees with P336 thousand compared to last year’s P276 thousand, real property tax section garnered P354 thousand compared to last year’s P324 thousand, and livestock market with P475 thousand compared to last year’s P452 thousand pesos.
